Casablanca on The Film Guide: Casablanca is a 1942 movie set during World War II in the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca. The film was directed by Michael Curtiz, and stars Humphrey Bogart as Rick and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa. The Castle of Cagliostro is a 1979 film by Japanese animé director and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki. Its main character is Arsené Lupin III, the protagonist of a series of manga and animé created by Monkey Punch and A-Pro.
The second animated Lupin III movie and arguably the most famous, Castle of Cagliostro was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki (who also co-directed the first Lupin III TV series and directed two episodes of the second) before he formed Studio Ghibli. Cagliostro features gentleman thief Lupin III, grandson to Maurice Leblanc’s French literary master thief Arsène Lupin. Some fans of the original manga version of Lupin III dislike this movie as Lupin comes across as too good-natured where the original Lupin III was a cynical, playboy character. However, Monkey Punch mentioned he particularly liked the film, although he did not quite agree with Miyazaki’s interpretation. more …

Kir Kanos was an Emperor’s Royal Guard and the final loyal member of the guard after their ultimate betrayal at Yinchorr by their fellow guardsman Carnor Jax. After swearing an oath to hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice, Kanos became the most wanted man in the galaxy, after a massive bounty was put on his head by the Imperial Remnant. However, his skills helped him stay alive, and he eventually caught up with Jax and engaged him in a final duel. Kanos slew the would-be Emperor, avenging his brothers.
However, Kanos then set out to eliminate everyone that had helped accelerate Palpatine’s ultimate death, specifically targeting the Imperial Ruling Council. With a sizable bounty on his head, Kanos went undercover as Kenix Kil, eventually making a name for himself in bounty hunting circles. It was with this alias that Kanos was finally able to infiltrate the council and execute the traitors within, especially Xandel Carivus, who planned to take the throne. With his main work complete, Kanos continued to search for traitors to the Emperor, hoping to one day face Luke Skywalker and avenge the Emperor’s death.

Now formally inducted into the Royal Guard, Kanos served with distinction for several years, but matters outside his control would eventually change his life forever.[1] Kanos was not one of the guard to be assigned to the Death Star II, and so escaped death when the Emperor was killed for the first time during the Battle of Endor. Without an Emperor, Kanos carried on alone for several years, leaving active duty, but still trying to live up to the Emperor’s ideals. Unfortunately, this service was to be short lived. How? read more…
The Battle of Grassy Plains was the climactic battle of the Invasion of Naboo. Fought between the Gungan Grand Army and the Trade Federation. It was often called the Battle of Naboo. The battle served as a diversion for Queen Amidala, who planned to strike at Federation-controlled Theed, and needed the main Federation force drawn away from the city. Viceroy Nute Gunray ordered the main army away from Theed to deal with the threat, leaving a security force that was minuscule by comparison to defend Theed.
The Gungans fought for several hours; however once their energy shield was breached they were swiftly routed by OOM-9’s forces in a tactical defeat. However, the destruction of the Droid Control Ship by Anakin Skywalker caused the Federation army to deactivate, which resulted in a final victory for the Gungan army.
The Queen implored the Galactic Senate to assist her against the Trade Federation’s illegal occupation of her home planet of Naboo, but could not bear the suffering of her people while the Senate deliberated.
Deciding to take action herself, she returned to Naboo and, with the aid of Jar Jar Binks, the Queen managed to convince Rugor Nass, leader of the Gungans, to align with the Human population of Naboo. Nass pledged his support to Amidala, and a historic pact was made, ending years of enmity between the Naboo and the Gungans. Once the remainder of the Royal Naboo Security Forces had been summoned to their hiding place, the Queen, Captain Panaka, and Nass devised a plan to retake Naboo. read more…
